What is DNS Anycast
Server response time mainly depends on geographical remoteness of request point. Usually the less distance between servers and request point, the less response time is. One of the most efficient way that allows to optimize datagrams movement is Anycast methodology.
Anycast is networking technique where the same IP prefix is advertised from multiple locations. The network then decides which location to route a user request to choosing the shortest topological distance. In other word, user’s request will be processed by the nearest to him/her server.
Anycast Benefits
Load Balancing
It significantly improves reliability and failover of the DNS. If one of the nodes in the system fails for some reason, it does not affect the whole system. The load will be redistributed to other servers.
Speed
It decreases connection time by reducing the network distance between a client and a server.
DDoS Protection
The system based on Anycast is DDoS attacks resistant.
